A mannequin (also called manikin, manikin, dummy, or lay figure) is an often articulated doll used by retailers to display or fit clothing in a retail store. Mannequin is a life size doll representing a full human form. You will often see a retail store window with mannequins displaying clothes, shoes, jewelry, accessories etc.
A mannequin is an integral part of a retail store merchandising and is used not only in windows, but also in the store.
See the video below which shows what not to do in a retail store with mannequins from a retail store perspective. It is quite funny the way these guys have enacted an often made request to the store staff.
What Not To Do In Retail
My opinion on this – A customer’s request on getting the product off the mannequin is fully justified, if it is a size issue and the customer has already made a selection and would like to buy the piece in the window on the mannequin. However the request is totally unjust if the request for product to be taken off the mannequin is just for the touch and feel. Well come on, you can feel another size and get the touch and feel for the product!

Haha that is sooo right… I am a waitress but I’ve worked in retail and it’s the same story.. Maybe even worse in the food industry.. people treat you like your ONLY purpose in life is to cater to their every need, and will try your hardest to piss you off.
Thank you Stevie for that!I work at Kroger in customer service (I started out as a cashier) and boy have I dealt with a wide array of customers. I can honestly say that most people are very nice but you do have to deal with the idiots. The thing about supermarket retail is that EVERYBODY needs food so those occasional rude customers a clothing store sees, we see them every other day or week lol!
LOL hospitality rocks xoxo
your jeans are so cute!
you gota check out ABC’s of Retail its the truth about customers!
HaHa!! Wow i’m not suprised. Having to work in retail for 3 years I know that customers think that they can act big, bad, and rude just because they know that you’re on the clock and you can’t do ANYTHING about it…
Wow, I feel bad when a worker has to get a hooked stick out to reach something for me. D:
omg i work in retail too. I hate having to do stuff like this for people. One thing that also pisses me off is that people can never seem to empty out their change rooms….imma cut a bitch!
This happened to me today!! lol
I did this to a guy In Macy’s a while back. But he was super rude and told me he would only take it off the mannequin if I was really going to buy it. Luckily it looked great on me and I ended up buying it and 3 other shirts but he was a bit of a douchebag to me…
