Efforts to sell struggling burger chain Tootsies ended in failure this evening after stock market-listed parent Clapham House Group pushed it into a pre-pack administration with the closure of 10 restaurants and the loss of 200 jobs. A further 11 sites, with 278 staff, were immediately sold on to Giraffe , the child-friendly “global food” chain backed by serial entrepreneur Luke Johnson and private equity house 3i. Tootsies was a pioneering upmarket burger chain when it started in 1971, but has struggled against fresher brands such as Clapham House’s Gourmet Burger Kitchen.
