US based coffee chain Starbucks is looking to enter the Indian Retail space. Starbucks is a leading international coffee chain based in the US, with close to 17,000 stores in 49 countries.

Starbucks has been looking to enter India since 2007, when they tried partnering Kishor Biyani’s Future Group. Their plans had to be scrapped because Foreign Investment Promotion Board or FIPB which regulates inflow of foreign currency did not give approvals.
This time round, they are in talks with Jubilant Foodworks, India franchisee for Domino’s Pizza. A person close to the developments confirmed talks with Starbucks are at an early stage.
The organized market for the niche coffee retailing growing and has only a few players. The most dominant of these is Cafe Coffee Day. The market itself is valued at less than Rs 1000 Crore.
